It seems like I have been a member of IMA forever. I stumbled upon the organization when I became an Instructor at MTSU in the late 1980s. The National Accounting Association (predecessor to IMA) allowed university professors to take the CMA exam for free so several of us took advantage of that. Cost accounting had been my favorite course during my undergraduate years at Murray State so joining the IMA and learning about the skills required of managerial accountants were fascinating to me. As a university professor, students are near and dear to my heart. Richard Key, a former Nashville IMA President, sponsored a student IMA chapter at MTSU in 1997 and convinced me to be the faculty advisor. Leading the student chapter allowed me to get to know many students in a much friendlier environment so it is a goal this year to get as many students exposed to IMA as possible so they can become our future chapter members.I hope you are able to participate in many of our events this year. I love meeting you and hearing about your accounting journeys. Let us know what we can do to make your membership even better!Jeannie J.
